Their mission statement…
To deliver excellent care to people approaching end of life.
When they first opened their doors to patients in 1973, as The Douglas Macmillan Home, they cared in that first year for 315 patients. The Dougie Mac Hospice now provides all hospice services free of charge to over 3,000 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year in the North Staffordshire area, also giving supportive care to their families and carers. Helping people living with cancer and non-cancer life-limiting illnesses such as advanced heart failure, motor neurone disease and incurable lung diseases.
The hospice is committed to expanding and improving its services, always striving to deliver the very best quality of care to meet the ever-changing needs of the local community. Their dedicated staff & volunteers are central to the care, striving to go that extra mile to provide a warm, friendly and peaceful environment both at the hospice or in a family’s home.
They work hard to deliver the most appropriate care closer to home, which encourages the development of patient choice and independence, so that patients may achieve the very best quality of life, at a time when they need it most.
The Hospice runs 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day & all care provided is free of charge. They are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and each year, the hospice produces a Quality Account, which is published on the NHS e-choices website.
The Dougie Mac Hospice simply couldn’t survive without the generosity of the local communities of Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
It costs £12 million to run the hospices’ services free of charge every year, with 80% of this funding coming from supportive local people just like you!
MM Events feels so strongly about helping to support the work they do that The Dougie Mac benefits from the proceeds of our tombola stall at each of our Mummy’s Markets family fun days held throughout the year.
